This elegant chalet for 10 people is below a quiet residential road between the popular ski fields of La Balme and the charming village of La Clusaz, which has a great choice of bars, restaurants, shops and a weekly market. You can drive into the village in 10 minutes, or if you'd prefer, take the ski bus, which stops just 200m from your door.
Built on the edge of the mountain, the garden drops away steeply in front of the chalet, leaving you with a fabulous uninterrupted view of the Aravis mountains, perhaps best enjoyed from the south-facing terrace. On a clear night, It's the perfect place to spend an evening watching for shooting stars, or perhaps a stunning Alpine sunset.
The style of Lodge Arpitan is influenced by the taste of its English owners - a neutral palette of creams, white, beige and greys reflects the mountain setting and makes the most of the light, and some well-chosen accessories and lighting create a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. It's a great place to relax at the end of a busy day exploring the mountains.
Lodge Arpitan sleeps 10 people in five comfortable en suite bedrooms, set over three floors. Built into the side of the mountain, you enter on the ground floor and there are two floors below that.
The sheltered porch and front door lead into a hall with large cupboards for all your outdoor gear. There are two double bedrooms on this floor - one with an en suite bathroom and access to the balcony, and another with an en suite shower room.
One floor down is the beautiful living area with picture windows onto the terrace and that stunning view! Three comfy sofas with plenty of cushions and throws are arranged around the fireplace and television, for convivial nights with friends and family, or there is a quieter sitting area where you can curl up with a book. The dining table has impressive views over the terrace, and the open plan kitchen is fully-equipped with everything you need to cook for a crowd. There's a separate laundry room with a washing machine, dryer, sink, and a separate toilet.
The remaining three bedrooms are down again. All have en suite shower rooms and are arranged along the front of the chalet to benefit from the view. There are two double bedrooms with access to a balcony, and a cosy twin bedroom. There is a home cinema on this floor too.
There is a garage for one vehicle on the ground floor, and a ski store with a heated boot rack, so you'll be ready to hit the slopes every morning.
There's superb skiing at La Balme, which is just 2.5km from Lodge Arpitan, with more choice at La Clusaz, where there is weekly floodlit skiing.
The ski bus stops just 200m from the chalet, so you'll be on the slopes in no time. A single Aravis ski pass links La Clusaz to Le Grand Bornand and La Croix Fry, giving you more than 200km of pistes to explore, as well as free access to the ski bus.
There's great terrain for cross-country skiers at the nearby Confins and Beauregard plateaus, and non-skiers will have no time to be bored, with an ice-skating rink and cinema in La Clusaz, as well as sledging, snow-shoe walking, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.
If you're looking for the ultimate in relaxation, let your cares float away in the year-round heated outdoor pool at La Clusaz, while the snow falls gently around you.
In the summer, the mountains become a fabulous playground for walkers, hikers and cyclists. The terrace outside the main living area is a great place to soak up the sun or enjoy a barbecue.
Walking or biking in the mountains is a pleasure - make it easy on yourself by taking the ski lift to the top and come down at your own pace. You can pick up a map of hiking and biking trails at the tourist office in La Clusaz.
Adrenalin junkies can try paragliding, canyoning, climbing, mountain-biking or white-water rafting. Adventurous families will love via ferrata, with children as young as eight able to explore the mountains on iron walkways, secured to a harness.
