Chalet Nordchamp, SamoënsVerified

14 Guests · 5 Bedrooms · Samoëns · France

Chalet Nordchamp is a contemporary, boutique style ski chalet. We're in an alpine hamlet, part of Samoëns, in the heart of the Grand Massif ski area.

A comfortable, relaxed base for your mountain holiday, all year round. Five ensuite double bedrooms, with room for extra beds, sleeping up to 14 people. Available as a catered chalet during the ski season, and with an option of self-catering at other times of the year.

There's a large open plan living space on the ground floor of the chalet. The four sets of sliding doors flood the space with natural light.

One section of the room is given over to two mid-century modern styled oak dining tables, seating up to 14 people. The copper-coloured inners of the lampshades give a warm atmospheric glow at dinner.

Two contemporary sofas and two 1950s classic fireside chairs mean plenty of space for lounging (snoozing) with a book, or chatting with friends.

Choose a book from the library and settle down for a good read. If you haven't finished a book by the time you leave, take it with you, and pass it on to a charity shop when you're done.

The ukulele, guitar and bodhrán are there to be played. Feel free to knock out some tunes - we've had some truly talented musicians keep everyone entertained for hours.

Upstairs, there are four enormous ensuite bedrooms. Ceilings reach right up into the apex of the chalet roof, and have distinctive long dangling lampshades to make the most of the space. Each room has access onto a balcony, with a beautiful view of either the mountains or the forest.

Rooms are usually made up as doubles, but two can be re-configured with twin beds if that works better for you.

Each room has an additional single bed (or two), creating a family room perfect for little ones sharing with parents.

All the ensuites have a thermostatic-controlled Hansgrohe shower (with a fixed head as well as a moveable shower head), wall-mounted WC, wash-hand basin, and a heated towel-rail.

On the ground floor, there's a further double bedroom, better suited for those with reduced mobility. The ensuite there is a wet-room, with level access floor.

All rooms are comfortably furnished with items we've restored or repurposed, and some that we've collected on our travels over the years. And we do love a big fluffy towel, so there's plenty of those too.

The sliding doors from the open plan living space lead out onto the terrace. There's a long table, with space for 14 people to enjoy dining al fresco. The terrace is sheltered by the large roof overhang, so its an ideal spot for lazy summer lunches. When the evening gets cooler, move over to the sheltered circular seating around the BBQ fire pit... great for sausage-sizzlers, and then keeping cosy & warm as the embers die down.

The six-seater hot-tub is tucked to one side, between in between the chalet fire pit.

The rest of the garden is laid to lawn, bordered with newly created shrub & flower beds. There's beautiful views of mountains in one direction, and the forest in the other. Snooze in the hammock, deck chairs or inflatable laybag; or enjoy a game of giant jenga or kubb on the lawn.

The driveway is plenty big enough for four cars. If you're a motorcyclist or cyclist, we can arrange secure parking for your pride and joy in the garage. We know this is important, as we're bikers too (so if you're unlucky enough to have a problem with your stead while you're here, chances are we'll have the tools to help you fix it).

Nordchamp has been welcoming Chaletowners guests since 09 Aug 2018.

Food & Drinks

Nordchamp

We're passionate about good food, cooked from fresh local ingredients. So creating a kitchen has been an absolute joy.

Ski season catered service includes:

– Breakfast can be taken any time between 7:30 - 9:00am. All the goodies are laid out for you to choose warm croissants and baguettes, a variety of jams and marmalades, boiled eggs, ham, cheese, yoghurts, cornflakes, branflakes, granolas, apples & oranges, coffee and tea, orange and apple juices.

We do keep a stock of frosties and coco-pops for the kids, but we'll check with parents first before putting them out, in case you're trying to avoid the sugary-snacks.

– Afternoon tea & cake is laid out at 4pm. Home made cakes, scones and buns. Favourites from our guinea pig tasting panel included lemon drizzle cake, red velvet cupcakes, and good old-fashioned scones with jam and cream.

– Dinner kicks off with aperos at 7pm, and sitting down to eat at 7:30pm. There's three courses, followed by coffee (including de-caff if the regular stuff keeps you awake). We usually start the week with a local dish, and finish with an international flavour (apparently you can get 'cheesed out' in the mountains). Favourites from the guinea-pig tasters included tartiflette, boeuf-bourguignon, and a thai red curry.

Our cooking style is more relaxed Jamie Oliver style than fine-dining. Its hearty fare for sharing, and plenty of it. You need a good re-fuelling after a day on the mountain.

Please let us know in advance if you're vegetarian, or have any food allergies, and we'll work with you to find a menu that suits.

Outside of the main ski-season, Chalet Nordchamp is available on a self-catered basis. The kitchen has been designed to be spacious and airy, with plenty of counter-top space, and storage in drawers underneath.

Right in the heart of the Grand Massif ski area, there's 265km of glorious downhill pistes. And plenty of nordic (cross country) ski trails here in the Giffre Valley too. If skiing isn't your thing, maybe snow-shoeing, igloo building or fat-bike action might be?

Chalet Nordchamp is right on the border between Samoëns and Morillon. It's a gentle fifteen minute walk down the country lanes to Morillon village centre. There's a few bars and restaurants, and the key feature of French village life, a bakery.

The Morillon telecabine runs right from the heart of the village upto to Morillon 1100, where there's lovely tree-lined pistes, and chairlifts to the rest of the Grand Massif ski domain. It's also open in summer for walkers and mountain bikers.

Walking from the village down towards the river, you'll find open-air swimming at Lac Bleu, and zip-wires through the trees at the adventure park.

Mountain trails, river walks, lake swims. Its all here in the Giffre Valley, waiting to be explored. Or simply take it easy with a stroll around the villages, a leisurely lunch & laze in the afternoon sun with a good book.
